Hidden Tears

Where do tears go

When they can’t leave your eyes?

Do they stagnate somewhere

Rotting the insides?

Do they just disappear

Become the air of thoughts

Filling your mind with chaos?

I want to set them free

They’re too heavy to hold

But their shyness is my burden too.

In moments of deep sadness

They should surrender freely

Make room for more upbeat matter

But the heavy ache in my chest won’t shift

My grief simmers inside

Churning through every loose thought

Pain too hot to detach

A body so tense it might fracture.

I am cold and trembling

Eyes bloated sacs of dismay

Trying so hard to give in

But nothing leaves

It seems I’m trapped

Buried with them deep inside
