His Artichoke Heart    

                     

She peels away layers,

some raw, some steamed soft.

she sucks soft pads, quickens

her tongue with vinaigrette.

Whetted, she cuts deeper

licks his artichoke heart

eats his fibrous core

slathered in butter

piquant with lemon.
