Homeless Children

Shelters open wide the doors

devour the young and helpless

cramming them with the lessons

of democratic America,

of, by and for the rich,

harshly rejecting

offspring of the disenfranchised,

who cannot vote

to obtain representation

in the land of the free,

so their children are cast out

of the decent community,

deprived of all rights,

totally dependant

on indifferent servants

of a bureaucratic system,

unconcerned

with the fate of their wards.
