                          Learning to Swim

I’ll take you there and you will see what I have seen:

the sea, the shaping of its waves,

the impossible join of water and of air.

I’ll take you there, and you will sense the surge

that lifts you from the sea bed, takes your body,

makes it weightless. Just as you feel you’re falling

I will keep you up, until you have no need of me.

You will dive into the tide, till all you are

spills in the gathering crash of surf.
